THE TOXIC AVENGER FAN CLUB!

We just saw the show for the second time yesterday. Of course Nick C, Nancy, and Demond rocked. We really enjoyed Jonathan as White Dude, too. But for us, Diana DeGarmo is a classic example of stunt casting. She's not believeable as Sarah. GREAT pipes, to be sure, but she can't hold her own with this powerhouse of a cast.

Any thoughts?

I thought she was great in all aspects. I don't think the role of Sarah is written as as much of a scene stealer as some of the others (i.e. Nancy Opel's solos and Demond and Jonathan's multiple characters). I also saw Diana in Hairspray a few years ago and thought she was hysterical.

I totally disagree with this. I've had the pleasure of seeing Diana in many musicals and she more than holds her own with more experienced actors. She's a gifted physical comedianne and has a killer voice She's done half a dozen musicals since 2006 and deserves to be recognized as the professional theater actress she is; she is NOT a stunt cast. I can respect that you might not have enjoyed her in the role but it isn't fair to demean her long list of theater credentials just because she did American Idol six years ago.

I never mentioned AMERICAN IDOL in my post. I'm an IDOL fan, as a matter of fact, and I enjoy seeing the better contestants (and I number Diana among that group!) do well. She's an awesome singer. But her acting isn't on the same level with the rest of the TOXIC cast, in my opinion.

You also called her stunt casting, which is totally unfair. You don't call a working professional "stunt casting." I'm sorry you didn't enjoy her but she earned my respect by being an amazing Penny in Hairspray.

Thank you for posting those reviews! I'd tried to find new reviws and was unsuccessful.

We'll have to agree to disagree on DeGarmo. For me, Celina Carvajal set the standard (I didn't have an opportunity to see Sarah Chase) for the role of Sarah.

Diana was definitely the "gold standard" Penny in Hairspray. In TA, while she's totally different as Sarah than Celina or Sarah Chase, she's great in her own right. She doesn't copy the previous actress and instead is totally unique. LOVE HER!
